Baldur's Gate 3 is a massive game, filled with branching paths and consequences for your actions. These consequences and repercussions are no different when it comes to your potential companions as well. Where to Find and Recruit Halsin

Unlike the other companions, Halsin is not an Origin Characters, meaning the process to recruit him is a little more complicated than the other characters in the game. In order to recruit him, you must first complete the main story quest Rescuing the Druid Halsin. This means that you can not side with the Goblins and recruit Halsin. Doing anything but siding with the druids will lock Halsin out of being a recruitable companion.

After completing this quest and participating in the post-quest celebration in your camp, Halsin will prompt to join you in your journey to Moonrise Towers. Accept his invitation and he'll become a mainstay at your camp. In order to actually recruit him, a few more steps will need to be taken.

From here, you can speak to Halsin in your camp, but he'll give you no real options to invite him as a permanent mainstay. In order to recruit Halsin, continue your journey into Act 2 in the Shadow-Cursed Lands, where you eventually come across Last Light Inn. Halsin will tell you that you'll need to lift the curse from the land by locating a boy named Thaniel.

While in Last Light Inn, you'll meet a man by the name of Art Cullagh, who's in a magically induced sleep. In order to wake him, you'll need his Battered Lute, which you can find by killing a man by the name of Malus Thorm, who's located deeper into the Shadow-Cursed Lands in the House of Healing at X:-199, Y:51.

You may need to wait to progress the main story a little more before being able to venture this deep into the Shadow-Cursed Lands.

Once you're able to wake Art Cullagh though, he will tell you he was looking for a Thaniel. Tell him you'll bring Halsin to him and then inform Halsin at your camp. Halsin will then come over to meet Art and be informed that Thaniel can be found where things smell like Lavender. This will be enough information for Halsin who tells you to meet him by the lakeshore.

When you're ready, head over to the lakeshore. We recommend resting before this if you haven't already, as you'll be thrust into a difficult battle after talking to Halsin here. When you're ready, speak with him and you'll be tasked to defending his portal for 5 turns while he retrieves Thaniel. During this battle, we recommend bringing plenty of area of effect spells and abilities, as the enemies come in droves, but are very weak. Shadowheart is particularly good here with her Spirit Guardians spell and Turn Undead ability.

Once you succeed, Halsin will return with Thaniel, and then you can meet him in your camp. Once you talk to him, you'll have the option of recruiting Halsin permanently into your party!

What Happens If Decide to Raid the Grove

Not much should be asked about this. If you raid the grove, you've either not rescued Halsin or killed him. Either way, Halsin will not join you if you kill his kin and side with the goblins.

What Happens if Art Cullagh Dies?

If you're unable to protect Isobel from the attack on Last Light Inn, Art Cullagh will die as a result. However, this doesn't mean you're locked out completely from recruiting Halsin. Approach Art's corpse and used the Speak with Dead spell or ability and he'll give you the same information he would as if he were alive. You can then take this information back to Halsin for the same result.

Halsin is a powerful druid and a worthy companion. Although you get him quite late into the game, he should prove useful as a powerful frontline unit with spellcasting utility, similar to Shadowheart as.
